A legislation prohibiting gender reassignment has been passed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and he also ordered the establishment of a mental facility to research the behavior of LGBTI individuals.
Mikhail Murashko, Russia’s minister of health, acknowledged the information during a meeting where the draft law outlawing “gender reassignment” was being reviewed.
“I want to emphasize that there is currently a presidential directive to establish, on the foundation of the federal psychiatric center, a second institute that will study not only these, but also a variety of behavioral directions, among them social behaviors,” said Mouraska.
Putin enacted a law outlawing “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia, and gender reassignment” in December 2022.
