#NATOSummitVilnius opens, with the focus on the Ukraine conflict

#NATOSummitVilnius – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that “without Ukraine’s victory in the war with Russia, NATO ceases to exist.”

“It is our duty to make Ukraine win, because if it does not win as a democratic and independent nation, there will be no reason to discuss security or joining the alliance.”

Before the commencement of the two-day conference in Vilnius on Tuesday, Stoltenberg made public to journalists his plan to shorten Ukraine’s route to NATO membership, a plan that, because it is impossible “de jure” as a country at war, makes Ukraine a “de facto” member.

The Secretary suggests convening a Ukraine-NATO Council to coordinate military operations.

“I have proposed a multi-year aid programme to enable full military cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.”

The meeting is attended by the leaders of 31 countries, including Prime Minister Edi Rama.

After getting guarantees from Stockholm on the problem of Kurdish militants, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dropped his opposition to Sweden’s membership on Monday evening, paving the path for EU admission.
