NATO is keen to develop its relations with Ukraine by providing the nation with an equal place at the NATO-Ukraine Council table.
According to Sky News, the group will meet today following a debate between defense ministers on the alliance’s ties with Ukraine, which is seeking membership.
According to Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, there is no unanimity on this country’s membership while it is at war with Russia.
“We agree that the most pressing task now is to ensure that Ukraine prevails as an independent sovereign nation, because if Ukraine does not prevail and cannot continue as a democratic state in Europe, there is no discussion of membership at all,” he added.
Stoltenberg stated that the 31-nation alliance will commit to a “multi-year program where we help Ukraine bring the old standards, equipment, procedures, and doctrines to standards and become fully interoperable with NATO.”
He assessed that countries backing made a difference on the battlefield during counter-offensives.
