Mark Meadows, the former chief of staff to former US President Donald Trump, has spoken to investigators at least three times and appeared before a federal grand jury once in exchange for immunity. Trump’s ex-lawyer Michael Cohen also made incriminating statements about his former client in court.
New York, Oct 25 (Telegraph News) – Cohen appeared in court on Tuesday in a fraud case surrounding Donald Trump’s empire and will testify further today. The man admitted that Trump’s accounting had been manipulated and that there was indeed fraud.
Separately from that case, Donald Trump was charged in August with attempting to influence the 2020 presidential election, based on charges brought by the special counsel in the case, Jack Smith. According to ABC News, Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows has been granted immunity, meaning his statements cannot be used against him and he cannot be prosecuted in the federal case.
Meadows reportedly testified to Smith’s team that he repeatedly warned Trump that his claims of widespread election fraud were unfounded, sources familiar with the investigation said. The chief of staff reportedly stated that Trump was “dishonest” to the people when he claimed to have won the election before the final results were in. “Obviously we didn’t win,” Meadows reportedly told Smith’s team.
