As he prepared to leave for the EU summit on refugee laws, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated, “There is a clear connection between terrorist acts and illegal immigration”
BUDAPEST, Oct 27 (Telegraph News) — Orban stressed that Hungary will resist Brussels’ plan to share responsibility for hosting asylum seekers across the bloc, as well as their costs.
The Hungarian has often clashed with Brussels not only on the issue of immigration but also on other policies such as the media, LGBTQ, or reforms in the judiciary.
Last year, the European Commission withheld millions of euros in funding to Hungary for resisting common policies, a move Orbán compared to “Soviet-style behavior.”
“I hope that more and more people in Brussels will understand that there is a clear connection between terrorist acts and mass immigration,” Orban said before the two-day summit in Brussels.
“Those who support immigration also support terrorism. We are against terrorism, so we will not support this type of immigration,” he said.
His comments come a day after two terrorist attacks in Belgium and France carried out by radicalized migrants who had been denied asylum.
Orban added further: “We don’t want to give money to immigrants and we don’t want to give money to Ukraine, as long as we don’t see a proposal with sound foundations.”
He further added that it is in Europe’s interest to stabilize the conflict in the Middle East.
“If Israel and Egypt are destabilized, we may have a flood of immigration from that region to Europe,”
