‘Golden Passport’ Scandal Poses ‘Security Risk’ 🇪🇺

Caribbean nations are selling ‘golden passports which enable visa-free access to the bloc for prices starting at $100,000 –  a scheme that has prompted calls for a massive redraw of the EU free movement scheme

Dominica, an island with a population of just over 70,000, has issued 34,500 EU passports, the EC said in a report.

Kitts and Nevis, with a population of 48,000, has issued 36,700 passports.

Passport sales in Dominica rocketed after 2015, when citizens of many Caribbean states were given permission to travel to most EU member states for 90 days a year visa-free.

The Commission is now proposing to overhaul regulations, as the situation may lead to the “infiltration of organized crime, money laundering, tax evasion and corruption.”
