A Muslim extremist has been arrested in Duisburg, in western Germany, on suspicion of plotting an attack. There are “indications for a possible attack scenario,” reports the police in the nearby city of Essen.
Duisburg, Oct 24 (Telegraph News) – According to the German magazines Bild and Der Spiegel, the suspect may have planned to drive a truck into a pro-Israel demonstration. A police spokesperson cannot deny or confirm that information.
According to Der Spiegel, the suspect, who has a criminal record, was arrested after a tip from a foreign intelligence service. The 29-year-old man is said to have written in chats that he wanted to die as a martyr. He also praised the man who committed an attack in Brussels last week that killed two Swedes.
In 2017, the suspect had already been sentenced to five years in prison in Düsseldorf for joining the terrorist organization Islamic State in Syria. His battle name was Osama Al Almani, or Osama the German.
