The European Commission’s commissioner for agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, wants the restriction to be extended until the end of the year and has offered Ukrainian businesses incentives to help cover the cost of the grain transit.
In the meantime, Zelensky warned that Kiev would approach international arbitration if the EU-Ukrainian grain import restriction persisted after September 15.
The European Commission, which serves as the EU’s executive branch, has not yet decided whether to endorse the extension of the embargo.
