Worldcoin, a new cryptocurrency venture co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, made its debut on Monday
The project’s main feature is the World ID, which functions as a “digital passport” to confirm the holder’s human identity, differentiating them from AI bots.
Customers seeking a World ID must undergo an in-person iris scan using Worldcoin’s ‘orb,’ a silver ball roughly the size of a bowling ball.
Once the orb confirms the individual as a genuine human, it issues a World ID.
The project is developed by Tools for Humanity, a company with bases in San Francisco and Berlin.
