WASHINGTON, May 24 (Reuters)
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is scheduled to declare his long-awaited presidential run in 2024 on Wednesday in an unusual setting: a Twitter event with billionaire Elon Musk.
His participation alters the complexion of the Republican primary race, as he is expected to emerge as former President Donald Trump’s main adversary. In the main election in November 2024, the candidate will oppose Democrat President Joe Biden.
According to aides, DeSantis, 44, also intends to file papers announcing his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Twitter, who has 140 million Twitter followers, stated that his attendance would not be considered an endorsement, but rather will represent his ambition to make the service more like a town square.
The Twitter party starts at 6 p.m. ET (2200 GMT).
DeSantis will also hold a conference of his top contributors in a Miami hotel on Wednesday, when they will immediately begin his fundraising operations. /Reuters
